Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) Program

If you are a low-income undergraduate student, you may qualify for the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) Program. The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant is available at over 4,000 participating post-secondary institutions across the United States. In order to qualify, a student must fill out the FAFSA to determine their financial need. The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is given based upon priority, with the priority being financial need. Financial need is determined by the U.S. Department of Education using a formula that was developed by congress. The elements of the formula used to determine financial need are as follows:

The student’s income
The parents’ income and assets
The family household size
The number of family members who are attending a post-secondary institution

Funding for the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is done by the institution, which contributes 25%. The Oregon Opportunity Grant is Oregon’s largest grant program. The Oregon Opportunity Grant (OOG) was established by the Oregon legislature to assist low-income students in obtaining a post-secondary education. Oregon students can apply for the Oregon Opportunity Grant by filling out an FAFSA. To be eligible for the Oregon Opportunity Grant, a student must be an Oregon resident, attend school at least half-time and be financially needy.

If you are a student in Iowa, you may be eligible for the All Iowa Opportunity Scholarship in Iowa. The All Iowa Opportunity Scholarship (AIOS) is a state-funded program that provides scholarships to students who do well and demonstrate financial need. The AIOS is a one-year scholarship for recipients attending private or Regent universities. The AIOS can be received for two subsequent years if recipients attend an Iowa community college both years. Also, students attending eligible Iowa colleges and Universities may receive awards of up to the average tuition and fee rate established for students attending a Regent university for the award year or the amount of tuition and fees paid by students, whichever is less.
