There are many different grants and scholarships available for women who want to attend college. The American Association of University women is an organization that helps women to finance their education through grants and scholarships.

The AAUW has helped over 10,000 women from more than 130 countries break through barriers and pursue their educational dreams of obtaining graduate degrees and making an impact in their local communities. Grant and fellowship recipients go through a highly selective competitive process. All applications are reviewed by respected scholars, researchers, teachers and practicioners. Here are some of the grants that are available from the AAUW:

Career Development Grants – Career Development Grants support women who hold a bachelor’s degree and are preparing to change their careers, advance their careers, or simply re-enter the work force. Special consideration is given to women of color, and women pursuing their first advanced degree in non-traditional fields. The award amount ranges from $2,000 to $12,000.

American Fellowships – American Fellowships support women doctoral candidates who are completing dissertations or scholars seeking funds for postdoctoral research leave from accredited institutions. Applicants must be permanent residents or citizens of the United States. Candidates are evaluated on the basis of scholarship excellence, teaching experience, active commitment to helping women and service in their professions, communities or fields of research. The award amount varies as follows: Postdoctoral Research Leave Fellowship: $30,000, Dissertation Fellowship: $20,000, Summer / Short-term Research Publication Grant: $6,000

Community Action Grants – Community Action Grants provide funds to individuals, AAUW branches and AAUW state organizations as well as local community-based nonprofit organizations for innovative programs. These programs promote education and equity for women and girls. Grant amounts range from $2,000 to $10,000 (two years)

For more information on these and other grants from AAUW, please visit the AAUW web site.
