Central Alabama Community Foundation Grants

The Central Alabama Community Foundation offers many different types of grants for college students.  According to their web site:

“The Central Alabama Community Foundation is a nonprofit philanthropic foundation created by and for the people of central Alabama.  Individuals and corporate donors make gifts and bequests of any size for the betterment of our community.  Though our grants program, the Foundation addresses a wide variety of needs and opportunities, supporting programs and projects in education, human services, health, cultural arts, and other civic concerns.”

The Central Alabama Community Foundation offers the following scholarships to college students.  According to their web site:

Elmore County

Available to seniors graduating from any Elmore County High School:

  • Barrett Family ScholarshipEstablished in memory of Terry, Ben, and Janet Barrett, moniesare available to graduates of any Elmore County high school who attend Auburn University.  Preference will be given to graduates of Wetumpka High School, although graduates of other Elmore County high schools will be considered. Awards will be based on the following criteria:  (1) academic achievement; (2) financial need; and (3) community service. Finalists may be interviewed. Include: A, T.
  • Herbert M. Christian ScholarshipEstablished in 1997, this fund benefits graduates of any Elmore County high school. Awards of up to $3,000 will be made at least annually based on academic accomplishment and financial need. Special consideration will be given to those applicants having a physical handicap. Minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0 is desirable. Application form, high school transcript, and essay outlining career goals are required. Include: A, T, E.
  • “T” Mollie Cook ScholarshipThis fund was established to benefit students graduating from Elmore County high schools that are pursuing degrees in architecture, fine arts, or drafting. A $500 scholarship for post-secondary expenses will be awarded based on academic accomplishment, need, community leadership, and a portfolio review. Include: A, T and portfolio of work.
  • Tommy C. Turner Memorial ScholarshipThis fund has been established to benefit graduates of any Elmore County high school who attend a school that is part of the University of Alabama system (i.e., University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, University of Alabama in Huntsville, or University of Alabama at Birmingham). Scholarships may be renewed annually.  Criteria considered in making the awards are: (1) need and (2) academic performance and ability. Initial applicants must submit application, high school transcript, references, and a copy of IRS 1040A or 1040EZ. Renewal applicants must submit a college transcript, application, references, and a copy of IRS 1040A or 1040EZ. Include: A, T, E, R, I.

Available to seniors graduating from Elmore County High School:

  • Abe Brown Memorial ScholarshipEstablished in memory of principal & coach Abe Brown, this scholarship is available to graduates of Elmore County High School who have attended ECHS for at least three (3) years. Applicants must have a GPA of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale.  Scholarship will be awarded based on academic performance, potential to perform as an outstanding student, school & community activities that demonstrate achievement & leadership, and financial need. Include: A, T.
  • Fuller Family ScholarshipThis fund was established in 1999 to benefit students graduating from Elmore County High School. Awards will be made based on academic ability (50%) and financial need (50%), with a minimum ACT score of 20. Finalists may be interviewed. Include:  A, T, E.
  • Ramona P. Jordan Memorial Scholarship – This scholarship fund was established in 1996 in m emory of Mrs. Jordan, a teacher at Elmore County High School. Awards are based on academic ability and need. Applicants should have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a scale of 4.0 and a minimum ACT score of 21. Application form, high school transcript, and essay outlining career goals are required. Finalists may be interviewed. Include: A, T, E.

Available to seniors graduating from any Wetumpka High School:

  • O.M. Bratton Scholarship FundThis scholarship fund was established by the Wetumpka High School Class of 1961 to honor the late O.M. Bratton, former principal of Wetumpka High School. Scholarship will be awarded based on leadership and character demonstrated by the support of fellow students, school activities, financial need, and recommendations of the faculty. The recipient will exhibit pride and respect as well as an open support of Wetumpka High School. Awards will be presented annually for attendance to any two- or four-year institution of higher learning or any technical, trade or vocational school. Include: A, T, E.
  • Olive Speer Harper Scholarship - Awards of up to $2,500 are made annually based on academic performance, ability, and financial need. Scholarships are renewable for four years, based on the student’s college performance. Number of scholarships and amounts awarded each year will vary. Application form and high school transcript are required for initial applicants; college transcript and application form are required for renewal applicants.  Finalists may be interviewed. Include: A, T.
  • Jason Michael Hilty Memorial Scholarship - Established to benefit graduates of Wetumpka High School. Annual awards will be based 50% on academic accomplishment and 50% on need. Applicants should have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0 and a minimum ACT score of 21. An essay outlining college and career goals is required. Include: A, T, E.
  • Adolphe Hohenberg ScholarshipCriteria considered in awarding these scholarships include students’ (1) scholarship and deportment; (2) character; and (3) financial need.  Include: A, T.
  • Marie Aaron Panhorst Scholarship FundEstablished to benefit participants in the Career-Technical Education or Business & Marketing programs by underwriting their college or technical school expenses.  Criteria in determining the awards will be academic accomplishment and financial need.  Include:  A, T, E.
  • John Martin Thornton Memorial ScholarshipAwards are based 75% on academic accomplishment and 25% on financial need. The number of scholarships and amounts awarded each year will vary depending on available funds. Students who receive a scholarship for their freshmen year of college may annually reapply for a scholarship award for up to three additional years. Availability and amounts of additional scholarships for other than freshman year are contingent on student’s satisfactory academic performance, financial need and availability of scholarship funds. An application form, high school transcript, at least two reference letters from school faculty or administration, and an essay outlining applicant’s career goals are required for initial applicants. College transcript and application forms are required for renewal applicants. The scholarship selection committee reserves the right to conduct interviews with applicants. Include A, T, E, and R.
