If you are a low-income undergraduate student, you may qualify for the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) Program. The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant is available at over 4,000 participating post-secondary institutions across the United States. In order to qualify, a student must fill out the FAFSA to determine their financial need. The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is given based upon priority, with the priority being financial need. Financial need is determined by the U.S. Department of Education using a formula that was developed by congress. The elements of the formula used to determine financial need are as follows:

The student’s income

The parents’ income and assets

The family household size

The number of family members who are attending a post-secondary institution

Funding for the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is done by the institution, which contributes 25%. For more information on the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) Program and other federal grants and programs, please visit the U.S. Department of Education web site.
